Project Description
Loop defines the cycle of reuse, recycling, sustainability, and conscious choices. It also relates to the cycle of tea that sparks conversation and deepens human connections.
The tea stall is located in an imaginary urban site. It is a simple design with conscious choices, where most of the elements are recycled or reused. The basic stall itself is made from old parts of a 20’x8’x9.5’ shipping container. Additional reusing wood, plastic bottles, plastic baskets, bottle caps, glass bottles, polyethylene bags, oil drums, and old tires are incorporated into the design. The tea stall will serve tea and juice only in biodegradable and earthen cups and glasses.
The plants on the site are carefully chosen to be useful for the tea stall, including lemon, lemongrass, mint, and basil. Some are seasonal fruit trees, which can be used to serve fresh seasonal fruit juices. Others are flowering trees for enhancing the beauty. This allows for opportunities in urban farming and biodiversity enrichment.
The tea stall is oriented north-south and features pergola with native creepers that provide natural shading for the semi-outdoor space. Solar panels further enhance energy efficiency, while the green roof keeps the interior cooler. A ramp connects the footpath to the site’s soft-paved area, ensuring accessibility for specially-abled individuals to the stall’s shaded outdoor area. The semi-outdoor seating spaces can be perfect for hanging out with friends, singing together or even for sketching or writing in solitude.
