Project Description
Concept: We envisioned a community gathering place that evokes the warmth of childhood memories. Through familiar spatial elements, textures and cultural cues, the design seeks to reconnect people with the simplicity and joy of their early years creating a place where the mind rests, the heart remembers, and community bonds grow stronger.
Inspired by the essence of rural Muslim culture within an urban context, the space blends nostalgia with comfort, offering shaded courtyards, intimate seating clusters, and interactive corners reminiscent of village gathering spots. Sounds, scents, and tactile materials are thoughtfully chosen to awaken dormant memories of carefree laughter, evening tea under a tree and playful moments from youth. Here past and present meet, allowing visitors to heal through remembrance, connection, and shared stories.
SPACES:
MOVIE CORNER: "স্মৃতি চিত্র" -The Screen of Our Memories
Here, time stands still and the screen comes alive with stories of the past. Black and white frames, faded colors, and familiar faces bring back the laughter of childhood, the warmth of evening gatherings, and the comfort of watching television together. In this corner, we return to the simplicity of those day where stories belonged to all of us and the screen was not just for watching but for remembering.
Café: "শরতের বিকাল" – A Taste of Yesterday
This café serves more than just food, it serves memories. Every recipe carries the warmth of home, the aroma of village kitchens, and the comfort of flavors we grew up with. Sitting here, the clinking of cups, the smell of fresh cha, and the sight of familiar dishes bring back afternoons when life was slower and every bite felt like love from someone’s hands.
MENU: গুড়ের জিলাপী, কুমড়ো ফুলের বড়া , শন পাপড়ি , আচার, ঢেপের মোয়া, বিভিন্ন রকমারি পিঠা ইত্যাদি।
FISHING CORNER: "ঘাট" – By the Water’s Edge
Beside the gentle ripples of the lake lies a wooden ghat, where people can sit with their feet in the water, cast a fishing line, or simply watch the sunlight dance on the waves. The quiet pavilion nearby offers shade and rest a place for unhurried conversations, afternoon daydreams, or the soft hum of old songs. Here, the sound of water, the creak of wood, and the occasional splash of a fish weave together a calm, healing rhythm.
SOUVENIR SHOP: The Market of Memories
This little shop is a treasure chest of childhood. On its shelves, you’ll find the toys we once played with, the crafts our elders made by hand, and the woven mats we spread out on warm afternoons. Shitol pati, wooden spinning tops (latim), tin wind-up toys, clay dolls, hand-painted cups, and bamboo flutes each item carries the scent, texture, and joy of a simpler time. Visitors leave not just with a souvenir, but with a piece of their own story to take home.
CHILDREN CORNER: "ছোটদের আঙ্গিনা" – The Playground of Timeless Games
In this lively corner, children step away from screens and step into the world of play their parents once knew. Here, the air is filled with the thud of a kanamachi round, the laughter of gollachut, the chase of danguli, and the quiet focus of latim spinning on the ground. Handmade kites, marbles, skipping ropes, and hopscotch squares painted on the floor invite them to discover joy in the simplest of ways. This is not just a play area—it is a bridge between generations, where stories are told through games, and memories are born without a single battery.
