Project Description
In the floodplains of Bangladesh, rivers surge and recede, leaving behind silent voids, negative spaces abandoned, strewn with debris, disconnected from daily life. It is in these forgotten grounds that our design takes root, transforming emptiness into purpose.
Rising above the floodwaters, the structure becomes a vigilant guardian. Bamboo and timber frame a resilient shelter, holding food, tools, and supplies safe from the relentless currents. Integrated composting systems turn organic waste into fertile soil, ensuring sustainability even during floods. The building becomes a refuge, a vantage, a quiet testament to foresight, a place where life, livelihood, and the environment endure amidst chaos.
As waters retreat, the space blossoms into a heart of the community. Open platforms invite gathering, learning, and play. Children reclaim the earth once thick with mud, elders exchange stories, and neighbors reconnect, using composted soil to cultivate small gardens, restoring both land and spirit. Natural materials that withstand storms also welcome touch and presence, creating warmth, familiarity, and belonging.
The core idea is a modular, bamboo-and-timber stilted structure designed for flood-prone regions, serving as both a relief hub during emergencies and a community space afterward. It integrates storage, shelter, sanitation, water harvesting, and vegetation zones to ensure resilience, self-sufficiency, and long-term community benefit.
