Project Description
This design derives from Bangladesh's architectural heritage, celebrating the fortitude found in abandoned and neglected buildings. It began with a news article about the potential demolition of Satyajit Ray's ancestral home, a moment that unveiled a deeper understanding. Endless heritage buildings and their stories are fading. These are not just structures standing; they are custodians of history, holding every joy, sorrow, and moment of grief from generation to generation. The site and building module are conceptual, representing a broader reflection on the preservation of these fading legacies.
Concept:
ইতিহাসের বুনন reframes the tale of decay into healing. This design "ইতিহাসের বুনন" reclaims pieces from torn-down historical heritage , that means , this design reuses the fragmented parts from old destroyed constructions such as tattered windows, damaged walls, doorways and transformed it which creates a powerful contrast between decay and rebirth. As this design allows us to heal the memory it can be called as a healing space.
Design Strategies:
• Suspended Heritage: Fragments elevated as floating “memory islands.”
• Interconnected Pathways: Bridges reconnecting lost narratives.
• Immersive Experience: Shifting views evoke presence and absence.
• Landscape Integration: Nature intertwined for moments of rest and reflection.
Healing at Three Levels:
• For People: A reflective space to reconnect with history.
• For Community: Keeps heritage visible and alive.
• For Planet: Reuses materials, reducing waste, extending life.
More than a memorial, ইতিহাসের বুনন stitches the fragments of the past into the living fabric of our future.
