Project Description
অভয়ারণ্যে transforms the scarred heart of the Milestone Haider Ali Building , the site where a tragic plane crash recently occurred , into a place of healing, remembrance, and renewal. The negative space, once filled with burned and damaged classrooms adjacent to the main staircase, has been reimagined as an open, double-height sanctuary that invites both reflection and recovery. The sky-lit double height space create a quite reflective zone within the building, a place for remembrance and emotional release.
At its center, directly where the plane crashed, a tranquil water body now flows, symbolizing peace and continuity. Above, a skylight roof floods the space with natural light, softening the memory of darkness and destruction. A memorial wall stands alongside suspended panels inscribed with messages, memories, and tributes, forming a quiet exhibition of collective remembrance.
Surrounding this core is a therapeutic landscape , green gardens, open seating, and a gentle ramp leading to the entrance. For the school’s children, a small playground with slides, swings, and open seating areas encourages play, connection, and emotional restoration. The design acknowledges that healing comes not only from remembering the past but also from nurturing life in the present.
Blending water, exhibition, and play into a single cohesive environment, অভয়ারণ্যে transforms a site of loss into a living sanctuary. It offers the community a space where grief can be honored, memories preserved, and hope rekindled , ensuring that the building’s story is no longer defined by tragedy alone, but also by resilience and renewal.
