Project Description
Scattered across the city are neglected urban voids, alleyways, rooftops, and overpasses, ignored by most and unused by design. "Your Imagination" transforms these spaces through layered virtual worlds, accessible via VR headsets. Each site becomes a portal to a shared digital world: a mythical forest, a lost playground, a contemplative shrine, or a landscape of collective grief.
Inspired by the emotional aftermath of the COVID-19 quarantine, when public life paused and people turned inward, this project explores how virtual immersion can offer emotional healing within unchanged physical spaces. In a time when touch was feared and gathering was impossible, people rediscovered the power of imagination, memory, and introspection. This proposal extends that rediscovery into public space.
There is no physical construction, only digital layers tied to real geographies. Each negative space hosts one unique world, experienced identically by all who enter it. On their walk home, an exhausted commuter may notice a symbol on the pavement, put on their headset, and be transported into a realm where mythical dragons fly over banyan trees, the forgotten magic of childhood made real.
Healing unfolds on multiple levels:
Individual: through emotional release, wonder, and reflection.
Community: through shared narratives and collective engagement.
Planet: through non-invasive reuse of space
This project doesn't propose any new construction, but a deeper connection, a healing discovered not in material, but in meaning. [Inspired by the recent development in Visual Positioning Systems (VPS) that can be used in our public spaces to provide experiences for a broader community]
