Project Description
Our initiative aims to revive Bangladesh's polluted and abandoned rivers, as well as riversides that were once used for dumping waste. Rivers have always been deeply connected to the lives of the Bangladeshi people, yet many urban rivers suffer from severe pollution. Our site is located slightly outside the city, in an area that was previously a dumping ground and where the river was heavily polluted.
We have designed the space to offer a peaceful retreat, allowing people to spend quiet time away from the city's hustle and bustle. The design includes seating areas, shelves with books for reading, fishing spots, and walking paths-all centered around the river, creating a serene environment. What was once a waste site is now transformed into a place where people can relax and reconnect with nature
For the structure, we drew inspiration from one of the river's floating plants, the water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes). Its broad leaves are used as the roof, under which seating areas are placed. The extended parts of the structure provide small fishing spots. The design allows visitors to connect with nature, enjoying the gentle flow of the river, the sounds of birds, and a tranquil atmosphere
