Project Description
The space is designed primarily for the local community living in the mangrove forest of Sundarbans who lives right on the front-line of climate hazards. For the people of Sundarbans, each disaster leaves more than broken home- an invisible scar.
A healing space would give them more than a shelter- a place to breath, share & feel safe. They need somewhere to rest minds, as much as bodies to reconnect with each other, and to remember life beyond loss. It would be a space where stories can be told, songs can be sung and the weight of silence can be lifted. In a land where people rebuilt over and over, a healing space offers not just recovery, but the strength to hope again.
The design is primarily a composition of circles without any sharp angles which represents a sense of belonging, softness, comfort and emotional safety. The design is entirely made with bamboo and fabric. Bamboo is not only durable, but also very cost effective as it is a local material. The design is entirely a minimal approach, as it is in a complete natural context. Nature is the best designer and that is why minimum design elements have been chosen, just to define the space any different from other similar spaces. The purpose of the fabrics is to integrate the design with nature and make it more dynamic. For example, when the leaves and the water moves in the gentle breeze of the forest, the movement of the fabrics makes the design more cohesive with the nature.
