Project Description
Small Actions, Big Impact
Urban areas in Dhaka and across Bangladesh face a growing problem: piles of garbage accumulating along roadsides. These neglected “negative spaces” obstruct pedestrian movement, disrupt community life, and cause severe environmental and health issues.
The Smart Dustbin System addresses this challenge by transforming problem spots into functional, aesthetically pleasing, and sustainable community assets. Each installation features a closed and protected bin with a secure chute and shell that locks the trash container, preventing scavenging, overflow, and pollution—common problems with traditional open bins.
Equipped with solar power, the system supports night-time lighting, CCTV surveillance for safety and monitoring, and a smart awareness display to educate the public about cleanliness and environmental responsibility. A water pot is included to provide street animals and birds access to clean water.
Beyond waste management, the Smart Dustbin System enhances urban hygiene, eliminates foul odors, and improves the visual appeal of streets. By integrating technology, sustainability, and thoughtful design, it transforms neglected spaces into organized, enjoyable, and meaningful parts of the city. This project demonstrates that innovative solutions can turn urban challenges into opportunities for environmental stewardship, public awareness, and community improvement.
