Project Description
The Underscape revitalizes a neglected dumping ground beneath the Metro Rail Line in Farmgate, Dhaka, transforming it into an inclusive healing space. Once a park, the area was overtaken by unused construction materials but it's now seen as a vibrant community hub promoting connection, wellness, and environmental renewal.
The space features an open stage, a cycling track, food stall, children's park and lush greenery with trees that provide shade and reduce urban heat. A bamboo wall surrounding the space minimizes noise and reflects traditional craftsmanship. Winding paths, wooden benches, community amphitheater and a cozy food truck invite visitors to relax and connect.
Sustainability is key, with the amphitheater made of concrete, bamboo walls, and wooden benches. The site is entirely wheelchair-accessible, ensuring inclusivity. Visitors can cycle, enjoy cultural programs, or simply chitchat and relax. Children play safely, elders reminisce, and families gather, fostering community ties. The Underscape symbolizes renewal, turning an urban void into a shared sanctuary where nature and community thrive.
