Project Description
In the middle of Korail’s dense, crowded settlement, open space is almost impossible to find. Our chosen spot is a strip of land along the lake edge — dirty, smelly, and piled with trash. Yet it’s a little apart from the busiest areas, not too noisy, and still easy for people to reach. That sense of quiet gives it the chance to become something special.
We imagined this space turning into a community healing spot which has no safe place to rest or breathe. The design stretches across both ground and water: part of it stays on land, while another part steps out over the lake on light platforms. Being close to the water opens up the view, lets in the breeze, and offers relief from the tightly packed lanes of Korail. Here, there would be places to sit and talk, play, gather in groups, or simply be alone with the lake. We also thought about Korail’s other residents — the cats, dogs, and birds — adding shady corners, water bowls, and plants to welcome them in.
To build it, we chose materials people here already know well: bamboo, wood, rope, and rattan. They’re natural, easy to work with, and fit the place’s character. This is more than cleaning up a dirty patch. We aim to provide a shared sanctuary for the community which is peaceful and where people and nature can heal and breathe together.
