Project Description
We chose a strategic lakeside site at Mohakhali, adjacent to the densely populated Korail slum. Divided by Gulshan-Mohakhali link road, the site unfolds into two zones “Jol-Kanon” and “Nandan-Kanon” each offering distinct experiences yet united by one purpose: healing. Korail, home to over 50,000 residents faces poverty, displacement, and a lack of safe spaces for mental well-being or childhood development. On opposite, Mohakhali is though economically stable but suffers from urban congestion and a scarcity of public retreats. Our design bridges these realities, offering a breathing space where both communities can pause, connect, and heal.
Jol-Kanon: We reimagined the existing ghat that connects the Korail with the mainland. The idea is to create a lakeside space for people of all ages can relax, for everyday rituals tea, laughter, solitude. The open sky deck acts as a frame for countless stories to unfold between people, space, and nature.
Nandan-Kanon: We transformed the abandoned land opposite of the ghat into a tranquil island enveloped by greenery. The circular deck creates a sensation of floating above the lake. Another stepped platform reaches into the water, inviting visitors to feel and heal more. The shaded pavilion offers space to read, observe, or simply be. The design blurs urban chaos, creating a sanctuary where water, sky, and silence blends.
This is not just a place making, it’s a spatial dialogue. A place where healing is communal, ecological, and deeply personal. It responds to trauma with care, to disconnection with belonging, and to urban density with breath
