Project Description
The site is situated on the calm shoreline of the River Surma, where a small community lives on the backside of TUKERBAZAR, SYLHET. They are completely cut off from any direct communication; their only access to other facilities is through the bazaar or the river. Only a small plot of land between the bazaar and the community beside the river is a "breath of fresh air" for them. Children can be seen playing here during the day, but there isn’t any communal space available where people of all ages can gather and have peace of mind, as the daily bustling of TUKERBAZAR prevents this place from turning into one.
This negative space is turned into a healing space through our concept "Ripples of Joy". A floating sitting and play space that celebrates healing through togetherness, just as a single ripple in water begins small yet spreads outward, happiness, like a child’s laughter, can grow to touch everyone around.
Bamboo groves and the sitting itself separates it from the bazar. The platform of the sitting is made to float during flood by integrating airtight drums underneath, with locally found plastic bottles inside. So, even if water breaks into the drums, it will float.
The three ripple-like domes embody the stages of human life: infancy, adulthood, and old age; creating a welcoming zone for all generations to connect, play, and rejuvenate. Consequently, this design reclaims the negative space with care, which weaves into a gentle embrace for the mind and soul.
