Project Description
There is a big banyan tree beside the Rupsha River in Khulna. During school life, this was the place where students used to come and sit, chat, and pass time together. The shade, the river sound, and the open space gave the impression of a secure and joyful place. Today, the area is quite different. Sawmills and piles of logs now line the riverbank. The area feels deserted, and people do not visit here to unwind or meet with friends anymore. The banyan tree remains, but it is solitary. My design attempts to revive this site. I would like the banyan tree to become the center of a small, open, and inviting hangout area for the youth of Khulna. I have maintained emphasis on memory & emotion by creating seating spaces that narrate its tale. For nature & human connection, I am opening up the view to the river. It's a simple design but accessible to all. There are walkways for safe access, secure lighting for nighttime, and areas where individuals can sit in solitude or in groups. I hope this can become an area where students once more feel at ease spending time — a place that belongs to them, the river, and the city.
