Project Description
Cities tend to have vacant or unused areas that over time become urban waste. Our objective was to reimagine such vacant elements into areas that bring life, meaning, and joy to a community and help create an inclusive and sustainable urban future.
Our proposal reuses retired BRTC double-decker buses, once a prized element of Dhaka's transportation scene into vibrant hubs of activity for children. Instead of having such iconic buses rust away in junkyards, they will be repurposed into two storied play and learn facilities that can be placed at negative or unused urban space.
The ground floor of the bus serves as a cozy reading and storytelling hub, encouraging literacy, creativity, and silence interaction. The top deck of the bus is designed as an active play space with interactive activities, providing a safe environment for exploration, movement, and play.
This design preserves a piece of the city's past while addressing the absence of safe, engaging play spaces for children in cities. By integrating play and learning within a recycled building, it promotes cultural memory and community well-being.
