Project Description
"Healing in Containers – Chottogram Port
This project transforms unused cargo containers at Chottogram Port into a modest but meaningful healing space. Containers, once symbols of trade and industry, are reimagined here as places for pause, reflection, and renewal.
The design ensures human comfort inside the steel shells. Openings are carefully cut for cross ventilation, while high and low vents let hot air escape naturally. Skylights and strip windows bring in soft natural light, avoiding glare while connecting people with the outside sky. Roofs are treated with green cover and reflective coatings to reduce heat gain, while insulated walls and bamboo screens provide thermal comfort even in the humid coastal climate. Together, these strategies make the interiors calm, breathable, and welcoming.
Within this composition of four containers, each space takes on a distinct healing role:
Yoga Studio – a naturally lit, ventilated room with wooden flooring where people can stretch, breathe, and release tension.
Reading Space – a quiet corner with soft light filtering through louvers, creating an atmosphere for thought and imagination.
Interior Garden – a green pocket at the heart of the layout, where natural air, light, and plants transform steel into sanctuary.
Community Art Display Corner – a flexible space for sharing stories, art, and tea, where healing is found through connection.
By adapting these industrial shells into vessels of care, the project reminds us that healing is not distant or complex—it can be found in light, air, plants, and community."
