Project Description
JOL TORONGO (জল তরঙ্গ)
“Sailing with knowledge and smiles”
Background/Problems statement:
Nomadic and neglected community.
Limited living space and infrastructure with lacking of healing spaces.
Literacy rates are very low, and about 95% of Bede children do not attend school.
Declining of traditional occupations and going into poverty.
Key Design Idea:
Creating a community-based healing space on a moving boat for the Bede community—where
education, play, storytelling, and skill training come together—will be more than just “therapy”;
it will be a floating haven of joy and learning.
Concept: Boat of Light (আললোর তরী)
Aim: To design a floating healing space that fosters education, recreation, and social well-being for the Bede community while celebrating togetherness and cultural identity.
Objectives:
Provide safe play areas for children to support their physical and emotional growth.
Facilitate early childhood education and literacy through a small onboard library.
Create communal spaces for women to gather, share stories, and build social bonds.
Use the space for vocational and skill-training programs during evenings.
Promote a sense of belonging, happiness, and cultural pride within the community.
