Project Description
In September 2022, a movement began in Iran—“Zan, Zendegi, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom)—changing countless lives. Many gave their lives, others lost their physical abilities in the struggle for liberty. Yet the spirit endures. People, especially women, continue acts of defiance, not only as protest, but to keep alive the value of freedom.
These gestures become daily healing rituals, reclaiming what had long been prohibited and sparking courage in others. But how can such acts survive under constant control?
We look upward. Rooftops—often overlooked abandoned spaces—can transform into platforms of freedom. Here, people gather for collective activities: reading, dancing, planting, resting, and communicating. Some are paired with words from real individuals who lost their lives in the movement, their voices making memory tangible and personal. These small, human-scale actions can stitch together communities once forbidden.
Over time, these improvised sanctuaries—our Horizon in Bloom—could extend across the city, forming a network that gradually reaches public spaces. Imagine opening Google Maps to find markers of liberty—rooftops where activities honor those who sacrificed for freedom. The everyday app becomes a social network of resistance, reminding the lonely they are not alone and linking like-minded individuals. Through this, remembrance becomes action. Abandoned spaces awaken, and rooftops turn into growing horizons of hope.
