Project Description
Shahjahanpur Jheel in Dhaka is a semi-urbanized waterbody with community and ecological value, though under threat from unplanned urban growth. I grew up beside Shahjahanpur Jheel, and it’s woven into the fabric of my memories—not the cleanest, not the clearest, but mine. Its waters, murky yet familiar, mirrored my childhood not in purity, but in truth. It was once a cherished part of local life—a place deeply tied to the childhood and emotions of those who grew up nearby. People remember it as a space for play, gathering, and quiet reflection.
Even though it was never perfect, it was a meaningful part of their everyday world. Today, seeing it polluted and neglected brings a sense of loss. The emotional connection remains strong, but it is now mixed with sadness, as the jheel no longer reflects the warmth and memories it once held. So,I want to work on the restoration of Shahjahanpur Jheel as a part of this competition because it holds deep emotional and cultural value for the local community—including myself.
