Project Description
Flamboyance of “Healing” in a forgotten space
In the peak Monsoon, Skies and Rivers of Sunamganj merge. Fields become swamps, peaks of Hijal, Gulli only stand uptight. Pristine serenity engulfs as one trace down the image of lonely afternoons and evenings beside the Haor par.
Reviving those longing memories of childhood, this project aims to showcase the lush wetland of Sunamganj, Sylhet as a mean of achieving Nirvana, through the healing of human minds. The chosen site is an abandoned archaeological site in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj, with remaining hinting at one of the oldest existing Rajbari of Old Laor Kingdom. It is partially an excavation site during the dry Winter season. This invokes an inquisition of trying to connect with the past, while also cherishing the present.
Thus, designed structure, which takes an inspiration from the arches of the “Raj Duar” at the site, welcomes one to heal his mind through a meditation in self-care. One can spend an intimate time here with the loved ones, paint, play, picnic etc. Also, can revisit the site’s royal history in the small museum.
In addition, the reimagination creates a small economic hub for local boat vendors, much like Assamese or Thai boat markets, local handicraft products and traditional food may get a promotional boost from it. Finally, an abandoned negative space subtly combines an utmost healing of the trajectory of everyone and everything surrounding it.
