Project Description
Once a thriving swamp ecosystem, Ful Dighi in Adarshapara Housing Society now stands as a year-round waterbody burdened by neglect, waste dumping, and adjacent road flooding. Once central to local biodiversity and community interaction, it has gradually turned into an overlooked negative space, disconnected from daily life.
This proposal envisions Ful Dighi as a place where water is embraced rather than resisted. The design integrates flood-adaptive walkways and ghat-based activity zones to allow year-round use, even during seasonal water level changes. The approach focuses on waste-free ecological restoration, reintroducing native aquatic vegetation, improving habitat for birds and fish, and strengthening the site’s natural resilience.
Circulation is reimagined through a network of elevated pedestrian paths, creating continuous community access while protecting the ecosystem. The ghat areas serve as gathering points for cultural events, reflection, and seasonal festivities, reconnecting people to water as a shared heritage.
By combining community-led placemaking with ecological enhancement, Ful Dighi becomes more than a restored wetland it transforms into a living public space that heals both land and life. This vision promotes biodiversity revival, social cohesion, and flood resilience, ensuring that Ful Dighi once again becomes a source of pride, utility, and environmental balance for its surrounding neighborhoods.
