Project Description
From Silence to Song: Memory, Resistance and Revival
Once the residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Dhanmondi 32 now stands fractured and raw - its walls torn open by the people’s fury after the July Movement. Today, its existing condition remains an unflinching witness to that uprising, a physical record of a nation’s defiance and its turning point toward freedom.
We will preserve the building exactly as it stands, retaining every mark, fracture, and fragment. Our intervention aims to make the space usable while respecting its existing elements, with minimal additions such as glass, metal frames, metal grills, steel structures for necessary support, ropes, creepers, and greenery. A library, children’s play areas, indoor games, outdoor play equipment, open paths for strolling with guardians will gently bring life back to the site, allowing it to serve the community without compromising its authenticity.
Around and within the preserved ruins, a new landscape unfolds: spaces where children’s laughter and footsteps weave through the echoes of history. The site becomes both archive and playground, both monument and living ground- where resistance is remembered, history is taught and renewal is lived.
