Project Description
Chosen Negative Space:
At the Gulshan Water Taxi Terminal, the area around Gulshan Gudaraghat is chaotic and difficult to navigate. The footpaths on both the north and south sides are congested, with temporary stalls and a crowded waiting area that makes it hard for pedestrians to get through. Our project seeks to transform this negative space into a healing one by redesigning the environment to prioritize human well-being and circulation.
Intended Healing Transformation:
Our goal is to create a sense of order and safety through functional design by creating a safe and effective environment. The key idea is to establish designated, structured areas for the stalls and passenger waiting spaces.
Key Design Idea:
The key design idea is to establish designated, structured areas for temporary stalls and passenger waiting spaces. On the northern side, a line of permanent stalls with proper structures and roofing will be constructed, extending over the footpath to provide shade and free up pedestrian space. On the southern side, a new waiting area will be created adjacent to the footpath for water taxi passengers, improving overall circulation. The roofs will be designed with an angled slope to direct rainwater away from the footpaths and into the drainage system or the adjacent lake, demonstrating an ecological response and reinforcing the idea of environmental healing. Our proposal is about more than just what we can build; it's about transforming a space and showing why that matters.
