Project Description
The “Dakka” project is located between the River Buriganga and the historic Ahsan Manzil, in a space long known as the fruit bazar. This vibrant location, framed by water and heritage, inspired a design that blends tradition with healing public space.
The design draws architectural inspiration from the graceful forms of Ahsan Manzil while reimagining them in a modern way. At the heart of the project is a stepped platform that opens toward the river, offering spaces for people to sit, relax, and feel the breeze. Beneath these stairs, small shops are placed to honor the site’s bazar tradition, supporting local vendors and adding life to the structure.
A key structural and conceptual feature is the shared wall system. By using shared walls between shops and facilities, the design minimizes construction costs, improves thermal comfort, and fosters a sense of unity among the occupants. This approach creates a compact yet open architectural footprint that respects the limited urban space.
“Dakka” is more than a structure — it is a place where heritage, commerce, and mental well-being come together, connecting people to both the river and the community.
