Bloom of Remembrance
A Living Memorial for Milestone School
On the grounds of Milestone School, Uttara where a fighter jet crash once brought sudden grief stands Bloom of Remembrance, a space where loss is honored and hope is nurtured.
At its center rises a geodesic dome built from burnt bamboo and cane, its charred surface holding the memory of that tragic day. From the earth below, plants will gradually climb and weave over the frame, transforming the darkened skeleton into a flourishing green sanctuary a living symbol of healing through nature’s embrace.
Beneath this dome lies a circular water body, home to lotus and water lilies, representing purity, rebirth, and peace. Across the water, freeform walkways weave in organic patterns, echoing the playful unpredictability of childhood. In contrast to the dome’s structure, these paths remind us that care and guidance help protect the innocence of youth.
The one-meter-high entrances invite children to step in with ease, while adults must bow to enter an act of respect for the world of childhood. Inside, the gentle sound of water, soft rustling of leaves, and dappled sunlight create a calm refuge for reflection and play.
Here, grief finds space to soften, memories are honored, and hope takes root. Over time, as the dome turns green, it will stand as a testament to the truth that even from deep sorrow, life can grow again—stronger, kinder, and beautifully alive.
