Project Description
Healing is a personal experience—there isn't one place that suits everyone, and even the same person needs different settings at times. In today’s world, where virtual reality & artificial intelligence are common, the goal is to design spaces that are adaptable, welcoming, and rooted in cultural traditions.
This project repurposes the abandoned Darasbari Mosque in Chapai Nawabganj into a central hub for REALMS—a hybrid healing environment that blends historical architecture with digital immersion. The mosque’s central courtyard maintains its historical and communal value, while nearby VR Module Rooms serve as gateways to various "dimensions" of healing. Each of these virtual spaces offers an unique atmosphere—calm natural settings, vibrant urban environments, or even personal memory landscapes—allowing individuals to choose an environment that matches their emotional condition.
Accessibility is a key part of this design. Visitors engage with the space in person or connect from home through online, allowing them to participate regardless of their location, time, or financial situation. This connected system builds a shared virtual community, promoting well-being among people from different backgrounds.
By reusing a heritage site the project supports sustainability while respecting its historical importance. Here, technology complements rather than replaces the physical setting, expanding its potential to offer an endless array of healing experiences in one architectural space.
