A Serene Congression: From Hidden Prayer to Public Healing
Located in a Haji Bari, a traditional homestead where a historic mosque previously stood, in Pirojpur Sadar, A Serene Congression continues generations of devotion. Over time, the old Panjegana mosque grew aged and structurally fragile, no longer safe for regular use. Its only entry, which was through a house and concealed behind private walls, inadvertently turned worshippers away.
While making it accessible to the larger neighborhood, the remodeling pays tribute to the family elder who constructed the original mosque. What used to be a private area is now a common civic monument where community care, prayer, and remembering come together.
People: The curved mihrab wall, which was inspired by ruku, the bowed stance of prayer, is touched by light that is choreographed to promote spiritual healing. An open ablution courtyard and gender-sensitive areas restore dignity.
Community: Monthly storytelling evenings that preserve the oral histories of the Haji Bari, and a daily "quiet hour" for reflection all contribute to social healing. The mosque turns into a place for communal rituals, education, and caring.
Planet: The flood-resistant plinth, passive cooling via clay-pot infill slabs, and native flora that revitalizes and shades the microclimate are all examples of ecological healing.
