Project Description
Duolun Road was once a thriving residential street, reaching its golden age in the 1920s and 1930s when it became a vibrant hub for writers and intellectuals. Its rich literary and cultural atmosphere gave it a unique place in Shanghai’s urban history. However, over time, the street fell into decline. Many of its historic buildings now stand in disrepair, and the energy that once defined the area has faded.
This project seeks to restore a sense of vitality to the neighborhood by introducing elder-friendly design elements that also accommodate children and pets. In Chinese culture, it is common for elderly residents to care for younger family members and keep pets for companionship. By keeping it as a pedestrian-only street and enhancing the public realm with inclusive, multi-generational infrastructure, we aim to foster a lively, supportive environment that honors the past while embracing the future.
