Project Description
This work captures a familiar yet often overlooked reality of our urban life—streets submerged after relentless rain, where movement does not stop, but becomes a struggle. I chose this scenario to highlight the resilience of rickshaw pullers, whose three wheels continue to carry the city forward even in the harshest conditions.
The flooded street is not just a setting; it represents resistance. Water slows everything down, turning simple motion into physical endurance. In contrast, the rickshaw becomes a symbol of persistence. Despite the weight of water and uncertainty, it keeps moving—just like the people who depend on it.
The composition focuses on the foreground figure, emphasizing human effort against an overwhelming environment. Repetition of rickshaws in the background suggests that this is not an isolated story, but a shared reality across the city. The muted tones of water and sky contrast with subtle colors of life, reinforcing a sense of struggle balanced with continuity.
Through this painting, I wanted to narrate not just a scene, but a condition—where survival, labor, and motion intersect. “Stories on Three Wheels” is, therefore, a tribute to everyday resilience that often goes unnoticed.
