Project Description
This project explores the quiet transformation of everyday mobility in Dhaka through the evolution of the rickshaw. Traditionally, pedal rickshaws moved slowly, allowing passengers to experience the city—its sounds, streets, people, and fleeting moments. The journey itself was as meaningful as the destination.
Today, with the increasing use of motorized rickshaws, speed and efficiency have become priorities. People are naturally drawn to these faster options to save time and keep up with the demands of a rapidly moving city. However, this shift has subtly distanced us from our surroundings. The city becomes something we pass through, rather than engage with. In gaining speed, we are gradually losing our sensory and emotional connection to the urban environment.
The video reflects this contrast in two parts. The first half portrays the collective drift toward motorized rickshaws—busy, fast, and detached. The second half introduces a couple who intentionally choose a pedal rickshaw, not out of necessity, but to slow down and reconnect—with each other and with the city.
Through this narrative, the project questions whether progress must always come at the cost of experience, and invites viewers to reconsider the value of slowing down.
