Project Description
The bustling city of Dhaka never rests. The roads are forever busy, even during the monsoon season. With this short video I have tried to capture one such quiet moment of a rickshawpuller waiting for a passenger to arrive while it's raining, through the medium of digital 2d animation.
The rickshawpuller shelters himself under the hood of his weathered yet tireless rickshaw. He hums a melancholic tune to pass the liminal time between labor and rest. Thunder roars to interrupt him; he flinches but continues humming. He dozes off to the rhythmic pitter-patter of the rain.
Yet the city does not stand still. It never does stand still. Behind him and the rickshaw, there are blurred silhouettes of cars and the frantic people of Dhaka. The lights of these cars and trucks flicker, representing the restless metropolis. Blurred figures are seen crossing the street with umbrellas; offices remain open. Missing attendance may lead to a deduction in the paycheck.
In this mechanical city, the rickshawpuller also has to endure another day. His not yet mechanical heart longs to rest, but his stomach must be fed, and his family taken care of.
