The Quiet Wait
The morning began in a hushed, monochromatic stillness. Beside the curb, pulling the cool dawn air into his lungs, sat Karim. His back was turned to the awakening street, his gaze fixed somewhere down the dusty road. The intricate, dark fabric of his rickshaw hood—usually vibrant with painted flowers and peacocks—seemed subdued in the early light, almost like a dormant creature waiting to be roused. The world around him was a tapestry of gray shadows and soft focus; the trees above formed a canopy of quiet expectation, and the nearby parked motorcycles sat silent. Karim rested his hands near the handlebars, listening to the city slowly shake off its slumber. This was his favorite part of the day: the brief, peaceful pause before the relentless rhythm of the journey began.
