Project Description
The Jantar Mantar machine works by repeating a mantra until the mind surrenders. My space does the same thing architecturally rhythm used not to liberate, but to compress, control, and erase the self. The last arch translates the hypnotic repetition of Satyajit Ray's Jantar Mantar into a corridor of progressively compressing arches — each bay narrower, each ceiling lower, each breath slightly shorter than the last. The space does not confine through walls or locks, but through rhythm itself. Like the machine in Hirak Rajar Deshe, it operates through repetition until resistance dissolves and the body surrenders without knowing it has. The walker enters freely, drawn by the grandeur of the first arch, and arrives — reduced — at a single aperture barely wide enough for one. What began as architecture ends as apparatus.
