Project Description
Being inspired by Sattyajit Ray's 'Jantar Mantar' song, this is a space of mechanical illusion and natural revelation that later releases us from the hypnotic mechanical repetition/illusion. Inspired by the instrumental of 'Jantar Mantar', this project explores the tension between mechanical control and natural liberation through a sensory spatial expereince. The space is designed as a dark chamber with indirect entry, then as the visitor enters the space, they experience falling water droplets that almost look standstill due to the strobing mechanical light system (a illusion system used in the 'Museum of Illusions' in Hongkong. This generates a hypnotic atmosphere of repetition, suspension, control, and psychological confinement.
As dawn approaches, natural light slowly penetrates the space through a narrow vertical crack in the wall. The introduction of sunlight disrupts the strobing illusion, allowing the droplets to regain motion and transforming the atmosphere from tension to release. The transition marks a shift from artificial repetition to natural awakening.
