Project Description
NIADA is a surreal pavilion inspired by the anatomy and resonance of the hang drum, transforming musical form into inhabitable architecture. Derived from the ideas of “Nada” (sound vibration) and meditative stillness, the pavilion becomes an immersive spatial instrument where light, acoustics, material, and emotion merge. Every architectural element directly corresponds to the handpan’s structure — the Ding becomes a celestial oculus, the Gu forms the primary threshold, and the elongated tongues evolve into luminous openings that shape light and airflow. Suspended above a reflective black basalt plane on slender bronze columns, the oxidized Corten steel shell appears to float like a frozen musical note. Inside, visitors experience a choreographed journey of reflection, compression, resonance, and release. NIADA rejects ornamentation in favor of acoustic honesty, proposing an architecture that is not simply inspired by music, but physically generated from the emotion, rhythm, and temporality of sound itself.
