Project Description
HoiChoi' originally meaning the chaos of children when they gather or play around.
The children space is designed in a cylinderical formate to ensure that no single module overshadows the others. Kids can enter from multiple points, flow naturally throughout the space, and choose how they want to play. This openness transforms the structure into not just a place for play but a social hub where children can watch, imitate, and connect with one another. Additionally the form is flexible and another alternative is spiral form. This can also provide similar functionality. One of the standout features of this design is its modularity. Each unit is crafted as a stand-alone piece, allowing flexibility in arrangement and configuration to suit varying needs, form and conditions. This adaptability means the play structure can evolve along with the children using it, accommodating age group around 4 to 9 years old. In this way, the space reflects the dynamic essence of childhood—always shifting and growing.
Spatially, in circular form the six modules are arranged in a circular formation, creating a sense of enclosure while maintaining continuous movement and visual connectivity. This radial layout ensures that no single function dominates the space, encouraging equal engagement with all activities. Functionally, each module supports a different mode of play: monkey bars and climbing elements develop strength and coordination; a reading and sitting zone introduces moments of calm; a sliding panel generates motion and excitement; a rotating door stimulates curiosity; and a sound wall engages children through rhythm and cooperative interaction. Symbolically, the circular configuration represents inclusivity, flow, and the cyclical nature of childhood play—where activity, rest, curiosity, and interaction constantly repeat. The modular units can be articulated into various arrangements, allowing the structure to adapt to different forms, sites, and play scenarios.
Upon entering the play space, children are immediately immersed in a lively, interactive environment where multiple activities unfold simultaneously. They can climb, slide, or pause to read, choosing their own rhythm of play. The circular layout allows children to encouraging imitation and social bonding. As they move from one module to another, the experience shifts seamlessly between energetic play and quieter engagement, fostering both independence and collective interaction within a compact yet dynamic setting.
The 10 m³ volume was treated as a design driver rather that demanded maximum efficiency, a strong focus on multifunctional modules. Instead of spreading horizontally, the design optimizes volume through compact proportions and integrated functions. Every module serves a specific purpose while contributing to the overall circulation and experience. This volume encouraged in a play space that feels engaging, adaptable, and complete despite its minimal spatial footprint.
