Project Description
This project envisions a shared prayer space where people of every faith can gather in peace, reflection, and mutual respect. The space welcomes worship, quiet sitting, reading of sacred scriptures, or simply observing the diverse ways in which devotion is expressed. Conceived as a social and spiritual bridge, it encourages understanding of one’s own beliefs while fostering empathy toward others, nurturing harmony within the community. The architectural language draws inspiration from four major religions—Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, and Buddhism—translating their symbolic meanings into form and material. The calming presence of green reflects spiritual growth and paradise in Islam, while the geometric organization subtly echoes the sacred swastika of Hindu philosophy. Intersecting structural lines suggest the Christian cross, representing faith and sacrifice, and the purity of white surfaces embodies the Buddhist ideals of peace, simplicity, and enlightenment. Together, these elements merge into a unified environment of inclusiveness, contemplation, and shared humanity for.
The strict 10 m³ volume constraint became a key driver of the design, compelling a careful balance between spatial efficiency and spiritual intent. Within this limited envelope, the layout was thoughtfully organized to sustain the essential functions of prayer, quiet sitting, and access to sacred texts. Every surface and element was integrated with purpose, allowing bookshelves and seating to merge seamlessly with the geometry inspired by religious symbolism. The constraint ultimately encouraged a compact, unified, and contemplative environment without compromising meaning or usability.
We developed this idea based on our country's diverse setting.
Rooted in the country’s rich diversity of religions and cultures, the space is envisioned as a shared spiritual refuge that encourages understanding and coexistence. Visitors experience not only a place for personal prayer and reflection, but also an opportunity to encounter the beliefs and practices of others. Through quiet observation, reading, and shared presence, the environment fosters curiosity, respect, and empathy—guiding users toward a deeper awareness of both their own faith and the collective harmony that emerges from a mutual understanding.
