Project Description
JOL KUTHI is a 10 cubic meter modular unit designed for flood-prone regions of Bangladesh. Conceived as a lightweight, demountable structure, each unit shelters one family during emergencies while remaining adaptable to changing water levels. The base system allows the structure to float during inundation and stabilize on land when waters recede. Multiple units can connect incrementally to accommodate larger families or form clustered settlements.
Beyond disaster response, the unit transforms into a community pavilion during festivals, markets, and gatherings by opening its panels and joining with adjacent modules. Built using locally available materials and simple joinery, the system enables rapid assembly, dismantling, and reuse. Within a strict 10m³ boundary, the project explores resilience, adaptability, and shared space between water and land.
